UI/UX + INTERACTIVE

Interface design is a complex beast that is constantly evolving. In the late 90’s I self-taught myself HTML enough to make VERY basic things. Then in 2001 I started working as a Senior Designer in the web and interactive department at Mills James Productions in Columbus and got to work on a wide-ranging set of (mostly) CD-training projects for White Castle, Diversity Inc, Lenscrafters and others before leaving that position and diving back into the world of print. The small design studio I helped start up needed a website, so I was called on to make it happen. That website went through many iterations and ended up in the version that is linked below, but I had to learn many new things along the way (i.e., HTML5, CSS, Figma, etc.). I’ve done both UI and UX, but long before it was called that, so I’m no starnger to both the research and information architecture needed, but ALSO the actual design and how to make it live on a page as well. The technology never sits still, so neither can I. There is ALWAYS something new to learn. Here’s a couple of designs I worked on…

TERESA SCARMACK WEBSITE

Teresa Scarmack came to me for a whole campaign brand. Photography, Logo design, Mailers, Yardsigns AND a website to help get her elected to the Ohio Senate. Her whole “Send a Teacher to the Senate” idea seemed like a GREAT idea to me, so I went to the mats for her! Unfortunately her campaign wasn’t successful, but she was awesome to work with and lots of fun. I wish there were more political figures like her.

FIREBALL PRESS WEBSITE

These were designs that were put together for the print shop that I co-owned for many years. This “dynamic” version never went live for Fireball Press, but the skin I built IS being utilized and will be going live soon for another printer/designer shop called Hellcat Creative. Online printers require incredibly complex e-commerce solutions and utilization because the product offerings come from so many production sources. Definitely NOT a one-and-done Shopify-type situation.
